Job seekers lose US$17 000

Alice Zaranyika (52), Tebitha Kambiro (48) and Odene Chiwara (35) allegedly formed a bogus company called CHEN with Kambiro as the director.

They allegedly lured unemployed women to their offices pretending that they had donors who wanted to assist them start their own businesses.
The trio was not asked to plead to fraud charges when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Shane Kubonera.

They were remanded to August 1 for routine remand.
Prosecutor Ms Joyce Sithole alleged that sometime in May this year, Zaranyika, Kambiro and Chiwara hatched a plan to defraud desperate unemployed women.
The three, the State alleged, formed a company, which they named CHEN and opened an office at Runhare House.

More than 500 women responded to their overtures, it is alleged. It is the State’s case that the unsuspecting women were ordered to pay US$35 per head as registration fees.
After fruitless efforts to get her loan to start a business, one of the victims Mershtilda Chaparadza made a police report leading to the trio’s arrest. Police recovered US$400.
