Jockey Zechner tops Borrowdale table standings

JOCKEY Karl Zechner is still clinging onto the top position in the Borrowdale table standings according to official statistics released. The 2014-2015 horse racing season underway resumed a few months ago and Zechner is still calling the shots in the jockeys’ and apprentices log.

This log covers the period from August 1, 2014, to February 22, 2015, in information held by the local horse racing authority, Mashonaland Turf Club.

During the season Zechner has saddled 75 horses, won 11 times, placed second 17, third, 5, and fourth, 11, times. He has a 15 percent rate for a win and 45 percent for a place finish.

In second position is Francoius Naude with 83 rides under his belt this racing season. He has managed to win 11 times, placed second, 9, third, 7, and fourth three times during this period.

In the process Naude has managed to register a 14 percent rate for a win and a 24 percent rate for a place finish. Sean Chambers flexed his muscles after elbowing Quinton Riddle off third position.

Chambers is now the third best jockey according to the log, after posting eight wins, six third place finishes and four fourths.

To date he has a 16 percent rate for a win and a 24 percent rate for a place finish.

Seasoned jockey Quinton “Quil” Riddle who has won the Champion Jockey Award more than any other jockey dropped one place down the ladder to fourth position.

Last month he was sitting on position three.

The highest placed apprentice jockey is Collen Storey after getting the better of other seasoned jockeys. He sits on position six on the table after taking part in 47 races and winning 5 times.

He has a combined placing total of 17 times.

Such a performance by an apprentice jockey shows that bigger and better things are yet to come from the young man if he manages to keep his feet on the ground and work hard.

There are a combined total of 38 jockeys and apprentices at Borrowdale during this season.

Meanwhile, trainer Corne Spies has produced the highest number of winners and second placed horses.
