Jongwe lands at Bulawayo Chiefs

AMBITIOUS former Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side, Bulawayo Chiefs, have appointed veteran coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe as their new head coach.

Chiefs were relegated to the Zifa Southern Region Division One League at the end of last season, following which they parted ways with their former coach, Thulani “Thuts” Sibanda. Sibanda is reportedly on the verge of joining the development structures of Bulawayo football giants, Highlanders.

Last season, Jongwe, an experienced and well-travelled coach, was in charge of Chegutu Pirates, who also faced relegation from the local elite football league after just one season.

In a statement, Bulawayo Chiefs expressed their confidence in Jongwe’s capabilities:
“Bulawayo Chiefs FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe to the position of senior team head coach. Takaendesa holds a Caf A diploma and has vast knowledge in coaching as he has been a coaching instructor.

“With his experience, passion, and dedication to the sport, we are confident that Takaendesa will be a great asset to our team, helping us achieve our goals.”

Jongwe’s coaching résumé includes stints with Caps United, Yadah Stars, and the now-defunct Monomotapa, who were crowned league champions several years ago under the guidance of former Warriors captain Norman Mapeza.

Additionally, Jongwe served as the Zifa technical director until his departure from the role in 2014. — @FungaiMuderere./
