ITALY-BASED Zimbabwean international footballer Jordan Zemura has come to the rescue of Gumbanjera Secondary School in Ward 21, Murehwa district, which has been facing serious water challenges.

After being notified of the challenges at the school, Zemura, through his foundation, the Jordan Zemura Foundation, drilled and installed a solar-powered borehole, which is now benefitting not only the school but also nearby households.

Before the borehole was drilled, learners and staff had to walk 7 km to fetch water. He also renovated the classroom blocks at the school.

Today, Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo officially commissioned the solarised borehole and commended Zemura for the gesture.

Zemura plays for Udinese in the Italian Serie A league.

“Today, the Jordan Zemura Foundation has demonstrated that one person’s vision can have a ripple effect through a community, creating waves of positive change for everyone,” he said.

“Your support has planted the seeds for school projects in horticulture, poultry, goat keeping and piggery here at Gumbanjera Secondary School.

“Your efforts are an investment in the future of our children, a future filled with promise and potential,” Advocate Ndudzo said.

In her remarks, Provincial Education director Mrs Anatoria Ncube, who was represented by the director of Finance, Administration, Human Resources and Discipline in her office, Mr John Chikohomere, expressed her gratitude to the Jordan Zemura Foundation for the development.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our generous donors for their kindness and commitment to improving our school community,” she said.

“As such, Gumbanjera Secondary School is now a promising education hub as we move towards the achievement of the upper middle-income economy as enunciated in the National Development Strategy 1.”
