adminLONDON. — Under-fire Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will reportedly reshape his squad in January and axe the “bad apples” in his team. According to reports, the Portuguese tactician met with owner Roman Abramovich and received the backing of the oligarch, despite being at the helm of the club’sworst start in its history.
Mourinho has apparently convinced Abramovich that he is the right man for the job, but indicated that he needs to make some personnel changes.
“He wants to get to the January transfer window to remove the players he considers to be bad apples in the squad and get the club moving in the right direction again,” a source close to Mourinho was quoted as saying by The Sun.
“Jose does not want deadlines put on him for improvement, but Roman has told Mourinho he needs to see signs of an upturn.”
Chelsea sit in 16th place in the league standings, with many of last season’s key players struggling to find their form. Stars such as John Terry, Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have already found themselves dropped to the bench in this campaign.
Other reports suggest that Mourinho is particularly unhappy with his strikers. Diego Costa (two), Radamel Falcao (one) and Loic Remy have only scored three league goals between them so far this season. — AFP.
