VETERAN journalist and Chinhoyi University of Technology’s (CUT) first public relations and marketing director, Dr Musekiwa Clinton Tapera, who died on Sunday after a short illness will be buried today.
He was 56.
Dr Tapera, who was also a columnist for The Herald, died after complaining of breathing challenges at his Mapako home in Chinhoyi on Sunday morning.
His nephew, Tadiwa Sithole told The Herald that Dr Tapera, who had a heart problem and high blood pressure, experienced breathing difficulties around midnight on the day he died.
He said the family had lost a pillar of strength whose gap was going to be difficult to fill.
Writing in his personal capacity, the PhD holder in Management, specialising in destination branding of Zimbabwe for tourism performance, put the nation on the world map through his articles that were published by The Herald.
Some of the articles that he penned included one on championing the branding of Zimbabwe, that was published on March, 16 2021.
Dr Tapera was described by journalists in Chinhoyi as a mentor.
Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) Mashonaland West chapter secretary general, Mr Tichaona Katsvamutima, said the province was deeply saddened by the demise of the veteran journalist and marketer.
“The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) Mashonaland West Chapter is deeply saddened and shocked by the demise of veteran journalist and marketer Dr Musekiwa Clinton Tapera, who passed on Sunday night September 27th August 2023 at his Mapako home in Chinhoyi,” he said.
“By time of his untimely death Dr Taps was ZUJ Mashonaland West Provincial Media Awards Committee Chairperson, whose onerous task was to mobilise resources for the successful hosting of the annual glittering awards ceremony.”
Dr Tapera was also a board member of the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) and CUT’s brand ambassador.
He is survived by his wife, four children and one grandchild.
He will be buried at White City Cemetery in Chinhoyi.
