Songstress JoyRukanza is set to redefine her musical narrative on an international scale as she unveils her ambitious project — the deluxe edition of the acclaimed MatterMoreForSis album.
The RnB/Soul musician is working with her dedicated team to bring this musical masterpiece to life.
A deluxe album typically signifies a re-release of an album, featuring additional content related to the original body of work.
The initial MatterMoreForSis album proved successful for the Sizane High School alumnus, securing her the Outstanding Female Artiste of the Year Award at the 2023 Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA).
In an interview, JoyRukanza shared her excitement, promising fans a year filled with fresh music, captivating visuals, and noteworthy collaborations.
“I am thrilled about the upcoming year. My primary focus for 2024 includes the release of the MatterMoreForSis deluxe album, producing music videos for the songs on the album and engaging in some exciting collaborations and live performances.
“I can’t wait to share my new music and creative projects with my fans,” she said.
“While we have no date set in stone, fans can expect the deluxe edition this year for sure. It’s one of the core projects my team and I are working on.
They can also expect more collaborations and me experimenting with different sounds.”
She acknowledged the meticulous attention to detail and deliberate effort put into her music, aiming for it to be more than just a collection of songs but an emotional and thought-provoking experience. MatterMoreForSis, she revealed, was a labour of love, demanding countless sleepless nights to create an immersive experience for her audience.
Reflecting on a successful 2023, JoyRukanza expressed gratitude for winning accolades such as the BAA and the ZimAchievers Outstanding
Achievement In Music (Female) gong. These acknowledgements, she emphasised, serve as encouragement to push creative boundaries and continue her artistic journey.
“Being an artiste is such a vulnerable practice and when you open up to the world, tell your story and get embraced, there’s no feeling that beats that.
Many people may not know that while I started releasing my solo projects in 2021, I’ve been in the industry for a while working on other people’s projects while waiting for the right moment for me to introduce myself to the world.
“It, therefore, gives me so much joy (pun intended) to feel the embrace and love from my city, especially because I used to fear that they won’t understand my rather unorthodox music journey,” she shared.
JoyRukanza emphasised the significance of being true to oneself and highlighted that, when following one’s heart, people will ultimately understand and join in the journey. —@mthabisi_mthire
