GOVERNMENT has gazetted next year’s sitting calendar for all superior courts that include the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, High Court, Administrative Court and the Labour Court.
This was announced by Chief Justice Luke Malaba, who also chairs the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), in a Government Gazette published last Friday.
“It is hereby notified that, in terms of section 10 of the Constitutional Court Act [Chapter 7:22], (No. 5 of 2020), the sittings and vacations of the Constitutional Court during the year 2025 shall be as specified in the Schedule,” reads the notice.
The notification of the calendar beforehand will enable lawyers, litigants and other stakeholders to plan accordingly.
The first term of the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, High Court, Administrative and Labour Court will commence on 13 January 2025 up to 28 March 2025 where they will break for an Easter vacation from 29 March 2025 to 4 May 2025.
The second term of the five courts will start 5 May 2025 and will run until 1 August 2025 before they break for a mid-year vacation from 2 August 2025 up to 7 September 2025.
The third term of the courts will start on 8 September 2025 until 28 November 2025 before breaking for the Christmas vacation from 29 November 2025 up to 11 January 2026.
Sitting of the Supreme Court first circuit in Bulawayo will be from 17 March 2025 to 21 March 2025 while the second circuit will be held on 21 July 2025 running up to 25 July 2025 with the third circuit set to be held from 17 November 2025 to 21 November 2025.
The High Court first circuit in Gweru and Gokwe will be held on 20 January 2025 up to 31 January 2025 while in Hwange, the first circuit will be held from 3 March 2025 to 14 March 2025.
The second circuit for both Gweru and Gokwe will commence on 12 May 2025 to 23 May 2025 while the Hwange circuit will run from 23 June to 4 July 2025.
The third circuit will run from 15 September 2025 to 26 September 2025 with the Hwange circuit set to run from 6 October 2025 to 17 October 2025.
The Labour Court first circuit for Mutare and Hwange will run from 27 January 2025 to 7 February 2025 while the Hwange circuit will be held from 17 February 2025 to 28 February 2025 with the Masvingo circuit earmarked to sit from 10 March 2025 to 21 March 2025.
The Second Circuit for Mutare will commence on 19 May 2025 up to 30 May 2025 while in Hwange it will sit on 9 June 2025 up to 20 June 2025 with the Masvingo Labour circuit court set to run from 14 July 2025 up to 25 July 2025.
The third circuit for Mutare is set for 22 September 2025 running until 3 October 2025 while in Hwange it will sit on 20 October 2025 up to 31 October 2025 with the Masvingo circuit set for 10 November 2025 up to 21 November 2025.
