Award-winning singer-songwriter J’Something has joined forces with Eswatini-born electronic music producer !Sooks to release a new version of the deep house classic Bring On The Night.
The single was officially released through Stay True Sounds on Friday, August 7, and offers a contemporary take on one of house music’s most celebrated records.
The release has already received early support from music industry tastemakers including Billboard Africa, DJ Fresh, Kaya FM and YFM.
Originally written by Sting, Bring On The Night became a defining track in South Africa’s deep house scene through Cloudkickers’ version and Rocco Rodamaal’s acclaimed TroDeep Remix.
Nearly two decades later, J’Something and !Sooks have reimagined the song while preserving the spirit of the original.
According to the artists, the project began when !Sooks created an instrumental reinterpretation of the track that quickly gained popularity among South African DJs, becoming a regular feature in sets before an official release was considered.
The next step was finding the right vocalist to bring the production to life.
That role was filled by J’Something, whose career with Mi Casa and solo projects has established him as one of South Africa’s most recognisable voices. His work spans multiple genres, including soul, house, jazz, Afro-pop and electronic music.
Rather than recreating the original, the pair approached the song with what they describe as restraint and respect for its legacy.
J’Something delivers a new vocal performance that honours the emotion of the original, while !Sooks’ atmospheric production gives the track a modern electronic sound designed to appeal to both longtime deep house fans and a new generation of listeners – IOL
