“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.’” — Exodus 14:13-14
JULY is a month of divine rest.
It is not the kind of rest that suggests you are giving up on your promise, but the type that acknowledges you are done striving without God.
As we step into this new month, the Lord is speaking the same word He spoke at the Red Sea.
He is saying to you now: “Be still and know that I am fighting for you.”
Can you still feel the dust of Egypt on your feet? You have just emerged from bondage; you can still hear Pharaoh’s horses behind you and in front of you lies nothing but water. There is no road, no plan and no strength left. That is where God meets us.
He does not meet us when we have it all figured out; He meets us at the edge, with our backs to the past and our eyes on the impossible.
And His first words are not: “Run faster.” His first words are: “Be still.”
The God who brought you out of Egypt is the same God who gives you rest on the other side.
He is not in a hurry to wear you out before He blesses you and He is not asking you to fight a battle He has already won. When Moses told the people to stand firm, he was not telling them to be passive or hopeless.
He was telling them to stop striving and start trusting — to take their hands off the sword and place them under the shadow of the Almighty.
The Lord Himself said: “I will fight for you.” That means the burden is no longer yours to carry.
The fear you have been dragging from Egypt does not get to cross over with you.
The shame, the debt, the long nights, the sickness and the closed doors that have been chasing you like chariots — they are going to drown in a sea you did not even have to part. This is the hope I want to deposit in your spirit today:
God gives rest.
It is not the kind of rest that means you quit on your destiny, but the type that means you quit striving without Him.
Maybe you are at your Red Sea right now.
The enemy is loud behind you and the future looks deep in front of you. Hear this: Stand firm.
You do not have to part the water; you only have to believe in the One who does. Do not let July begin with you still striving.
The same God who told Israel, “You need only to be still”, is telling you now, “Rest in Me.”
Lay down the Egypt you have been trying to manage; lay down the wilderness you have been trying to survive. Pick up the easy yoke of Jesus, because He is pulling with you.
When you wake up on the other side, you will not see the Egyptians you saw today — you will only see the faithfulness of God.
So, take a breath with me.
You are not forgotten, you are not too far gone and you are not fighting alone.
Thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ — He who gives us rest while He fights for us.
We have crossed over and on this side of God, we rest. Amen.
