The Zimbabwe National Karate Federation has issued an urgent appeal for corporates and well-wishers to sponsor a nine-member junior team set to represent the country at the 23rd African Karate Federation Region South Championships.
The tournament is set for Luanda, Angola, from 14–17 May 2026.

The team, drawn from Karate Nomichi Club under Chief Instructor Sensei Greatman Agrippa Sibanda, comprises some of Zimbabwe’s brightest young karatekas.

These include Aluwani Charity Moyo, Amara Phiri, Chantel Dube, Georgina Mhondera, Makanaka Mulopa, Ntombikayise Maganga, Rumbidzai Makamache, Shasmeen Yalabi and Venus Mariwande.

Leading the charge is 15-year-old sensation Makamache, who has already made headlines as one of Zimbabwe’s most decorated junior athletes. Since starting karate at the age of 7, she has amassed 38 medals — 16 gold, 8 silver, and 14 bronze — and multiple trophies.

Her record includes: Silver at the 2023 Region 5 Karate Championships; Bronze at the 2024 African Youth Games; Bronze in both individual and team kata at the 2025 Karate One African Youth Games; and 5th place in junior kata and kumite at the 2026 African Youth Games hosted in Zimbabwe.

She is currently ranked 269th globally in junior female kata and 95th in junior female kumite.

The full squad represents a new generation of disciplined, podium-hungry talent flying Zimbabwe’s flag.

“These nine athletes represent the best of Zimbabwean youth — talented, disciplined, and hungry to win for their country,” said ZNKF Secretary General Kudzai Kadzombe.

“Every dollar invested backs proven winners and inspires the next generation.”

“For these karatekas, Angola is the next step. For Zimbabwe, it’s a chance to back nine future champions,” Kadzombe added.

The Federation estimates US$2,100 per athlete to cover airfare, accommodation, meals, local transport and competition kit for the week-long tournament.

“All donations will be directed to ZNKF for equal distribution and public acknowledgement.

“Sponsors will be recognised through social media campaigns, press releases, and certificates of appreciation.” ZNKF says partnerships can be tailored to align with Corporate Social Responsibility and marketing objectives.

The team’s focal contact person, Ms Gwendolyn Mariwande, said: “We would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss how we can tailor this partnership to align with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and marketing objectives.”
