Junior mp donates to school

The Honourable Junior Minister of Lands and Land Resettlement Takudzwanashe Edward Mudzuri from St Ignatius’ College recently set out on yet another book donation as part of his Youth Education Program. On 15 November he travelled with a delegation of aides deep into Goromonzi North Constituency to Mukombami High School. Being the only school offering A Level education in the vicinity it caters for approximately 1101 students. They are the proud district soccer champions and offer a variety of cultural activities.

Despite all the successes the MP expressed his discomfort with the large teacher to student ratio in the school, “ you find that one class has about 60 students and a teacher will be having about 4-6 classes.” He also spoke of the children bunking lessons and hiding in the bushes resulting in a substantial number of girls getting pregnant thus failing to complete their courses

The MP was taken for a tour around the school and interacted with some students who shared their challenges.

These include few teachers and  a lack of reading materials. Another point was on families failing to pay the school fees levy of $25 thus the school is underdeveloped and teachers receive the insignificant incentive of $10 per month.

Before handing over 600 books covering subjects ranging from languages to commercials — Denhe Roruzivo, Zambuko, African Heritage, New History of Southern Africa, Atlases, A’level Geography and  economics for A’level. The child MP Hon. Mudzuri had an interactive assembly with the whole school.

In it he admired the cleanliness of their school and stressed the importance of education:

“It is not easy to raise school fees nowadays and now that you have a chance to get education make the best of it because without it the world won’t have mercy on you.” He expressed his hope that the donated books would help serious students advance academically.

He also touched on the responsibility of youths in shaping their future by avoiding drugs and alcohol.

He also spoke against unplanned pregnancies and other pitfalls of early sex. “Girls! You should be able to tell your boyfriend that he should wait.

If he doesn’t want to do that let him to go. Don’t be fooled by the cellphones. They do not bring food on the table.”

A representative of the school gave the vote of thanks expressing the gratitude of everyone. He said “Ever since the time we heard that there is now a junior parliament, you are the first child MP to visit our school. Thank you and may God Bless you.”
