Chicken Inn 1-0 Hwange

A BRIGHTON Makopa first minute strike was all that Chicken Inn needed to compound Hwange’s woes, in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played yesterday.

Following a long clearance from the back by Lincoln Mangaira, Makopa, a former Hwange player, controlled the ball well, outpaced Chipangano defenders Tawanda Shenje and Sebastian Moyo to beat Bhekimpilo Ncube who was between the goalposts for the visitors.

It could well be the fastest goal of the season.

It was Gamecocks third win on the trot in a game, they missed a number of clear cut chances with Michael Charamba and Brian Muza being the chief culprits.

Gamecocks are now tied on 15 points with Highlanders who sit on top of the log courtesy of a superior goal difference.

Gamecocks moved to second position, after former champions FC Platinum and Simba Bhora lost their matches against ZPC Kariba and Bikita Minerals respectively.

FC Platinum suffered their first defeat of the season after going 0-1 down to ZPC Kariba.
Pure Platinum Play dropped to fourth place.

“We had to think deeply and grind this result. Hwange are not a bad side, they kept us at bay. That early goal helped us a lot. We huffed and puffed.

We missed a number of chances and hit the post several times. We cannot say no to a goal and three points,” said an ecstatic Chicken Inn head coach, Joey Antipas.

With Hwange brilliantly taking the game to the hosts in the second half, Prosper Mathe, veteran Cannan Nkomo and Mongameli Tshuma, among others, gave a brilliant show for Chipangano who however remained glued at the bottom of the log with a paltry five points.

Despite the loss, Hwange head coach, Nation Dube gave praise to his charges.

“I should be saying congratulations to the other team. I think the team played well. We matched them in the second half. We cannot talk about getting relegated for now,” said Dube.
