President Mnangagwa has officially launched the construction of the new 650-seater Parliament building that is expected to be completed by mid 2021.

The building is being constructed by the Shanghai Construction Group from a grant extended to Zimbabwe by the Chinese Government.

The construction of the new Parliament is part of Government’s plans to establish a new city in Mt Hampden.

The current parliament building has become too small for the 350 legislators as it was constructed to cater for only 100 parliamentarians

In his address before he broke ground and laid the foundation stone, the President said parliamentarians had a critical role to play for the attainment of the country’s Vision 2030.
