President Mnangagwa has launched the national cattle breeding and restocking programme at the Chinhoyi University of Technology.

The programme is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development through CUT.

In a speech read on his behalf by Higher Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe’s education system determines the trajectory of the country’s development.

“As the nation tweaks its education system to be responsive to its development needs, food production should be the backbone of industrial, technological and innovation development,” the President said.

The cattle breeding project will see the scaling up of artificial insemination across the country’s rural provinces.

CUT is spearheading the harvesting of semen, its processing and temperature specific temperature storage as part of the replenishment and growth of the cattle industry.

It seeks to reposition the cattle industry for the export market and galvanise value chains.
