JUST IN: Liberation hero Makwarimba buried

Liberation war hero Cde Clemence Makwarimba has been buried today at Magangani village in Mapanzure, Masvingo with military honours.

Cde Makwarimba, affectionately known as “Pafamba Satan” was given a gun salute by a quarter guard from the Zimbabwe National Army at his burial which was done in line with Covid-19 specifications after he succumbed to complications related to the novel virus.

He died on Sunday at Morgenster Mission Hospital and posthumous tests confirmed he had Covid-19.He was 66.

President Mnangagwa conferred liberation war hero status on Cde Makwarimba following a request from the Zanu PF leadership in Masvingo.

Senior ruling party officials including Bikita West legislator Cde Elias Musakwa and chief attended the burial.

Addressing mourners, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chair Ezra Chadzamira described him as a true son of the soil.

He said President Mnangagwa had accorded liberation war hero status to Cde Makwarimba as an honour of his selfless contribution to the liberation of Zimbabwe and the work he did after independence.

Minister Chadzamira said Cde Makwarimba was a loyal and committed patriot who dedicated his life to seeing a better and prosperous Zimbabwe.

He served as district chair for Mapanzure between 1980-85 before assuming the post of Zanu PF Masvingo DCC chair from 2000 to 2009.

He was elected secretary for Administration for Zanu PF in Masvingo and in 2014 he became a member of the Central Committee a position he held until his demise.
