JUST IN: Makhado police post damaged by storm

Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau

A strong storm that swept across parts of Beitbridge on Monday has left a trail of destruction at Makhado Police Post, located about 80 kilometres along the Beitbridge–Bulawayo highway in Matabeleland South.

The police post, which serves resettled and rural communities along the Beitbridge–Gwanda corridor and responds to road accidents between the two towns, was heavily affected by the storm that lasted for a few hours.

Confirming the incident, the officer commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, said although no injuries were recorded, police quarters sustained significant damage.

“We have received a report about that incident where the police quarters were affected by a strong storm early today. However, none of our officers were injured. The worst affected buildings are the police houses, and we are now working on an emergency plan to address accommodation issues,” he said.
