The accused (name withheld to protect identity of the minor) who resides in Ascot suburb appeared before Gweru Regional Magistrate Mrs Phathekile Msipa facing one count of rape.

Mrs Msipa sentenced him to 17  years before suspending two years on condition of good behaviour.

In passing the sentence Mrs Msipa said the young girl looked up to his brother-in-law for protection but instead of protecting her he abused her.
