JUST IN: Parks officials gun down stray hippo

Officials from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority have gunned down a stray hippo in Zvishavane rural after it claimed the life of one villager.

Runde Rural District chief executive, Mr Gorden Moyo said the stray cow hippo which was nursing a calf was gunned  down this afternoon by parks officias who have been tracking it since Sunday when it attacked and killed a villager.

“The hippo has been troublesome and on Sunday it attacked and killed a villager in Mabasa area who was coming from fishing at the nearby Runde Dam. It had become a manace charging at villagers and i hear it had a calf. We called the Parks officials and they are in the area,” said Mr Moyo.

He said the parks rangers were now tracking the calf.
