THE OWNER of the 5 000 litre water-tank that collapsed and killed a five-year-old girl and seriously injured her parents and sibling in Chinhoyi early Friday morning has promised to take care of all related funeral and medical expenses.
Mr Eugene Moyo, the neighbour whose fully loaded water-tank collapsed and landed on the two-roomed cottage that the couple rented said the incident was unfortunate as he never suspected anything wrong with the mounting of the steel stand.
Mr Moyo who has started meeting medical expenses of the three members currently admitted at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, said he would also fully support the burial of the deceased child.
The incident occurred at house number 11919 in Rujeko high-density suburb.
The deceased girl, Tendai Matumba (5) was pronounced dead upon arrival at the same hospital.
Tendai’s brother Tatenda (9), is in a critical condition while the mother injured her right leg, hand and also received four stitches to one of her ears.
The father, Peter Matumba’s (30) injuries were also said to be severe.
Tendai suffered head injuries and multiple fractures.
The couple’s landlord, Ms Sibisisiwe Nyamachewa said she was awakened by a loud bang and screams of the family wallowing in pain and asking for help.
When The Herald visited the house, bricks and pieces of asbestos from the destroyed room told the horrific story that the family went through.
The members were yesterday reported to be in a stable condition although the mother complained of excruciating pains on the right hand and leg.
