CAPS United defender Brian Kadamanja says there will not be any excuses if he fails to use the team’s platform to make a breakthrough and play for a foreign club.
The 28-year-old joined Makepekepe on a two-year deal from Yadah Stars following the expiry of his contract with the Miracle Boys.
Kadamanja is being touted by a sizable section of the team’s fans as their best signing ahead of the 2024 campaign.
The giant defender had been a rock at the heart of Yadah’s defence in the past two seasons. He is comfortable with the ball, aggressive, excellent in the air, and reads the game well. His ability also caught the attention of former Warriors coach Baltemar Brito, who included him in the Warriors squad during the World Cup qualifiers last year.
Sadly, he was excluded from Brito’s plans because he did not have a passport.
Kadamanja was Dynamos’ top target, but their hesitant approach left him considering CAPS United and GreenFuel.
But, once Chitembwe formalised his interest, Kadamanja felt that joining Green Army was the right thing to do.
Besides Yadah Stars, Kadamanja has not played for any team in the PSL, and Makepekepe will be his second home in the top-flight league. “I’m grateful to be at this big club, and it also means I’m doing something right in my career for me to be where I am today.
“Things are different at CAPS United because we are expected to win the championship. They have a big-boy mentality compared to Yadah.
“When I was at Yadah, our priority was to survive relegation, and I also want to thank coach Chitembwe, who has welcomed me with open arms at CAPS United,” said Kadamanja. Kadamanja wants to use Makepekepe as a bridge to make his foreign breakthrough.
“That has been my wish, and it’s very possible when you are at a big team like CAPS, which has a history of exporting hardworking players.
“It’s not going to be easy, but I want to give my best if I get the chance to use this opportunity to show what I can do on the big stage. “The ultimate goal will be to help the team achieve its targets, and as a defender, I can only help by assisting the team in getting more clean sheets,” he said.
Kadamanja is coming in as a direct replacement for Kelvin Madzongwe, who is currently club-hunting.
Midfielder Adrian Silla has also been shown the exit, and his next destination is still unknown. Makepekepe is also monitoring Ngezi Platinum Stars outcast Valentine Kadonzvo, who is believed to be looking for a club after ending his union with the champions.
