TINO Kadewere could make his Spanish La Liga football debut this afternoon when his new team RDC Mallorca face Girona at the Iberosta Stadium.

The Warriors forward joined the La Liga Santander club on a season’s loan from French Ligue 1 side Lyon.

He has been struggling for game-time at his French club this season before the team decided to loan him out.

And the former Harare City striker could be thrust into action to become the first Zimbabwean to play in the Spanish La Liga.

Kadewere has already expressed excitement ahead of his debut for a club which gave him a rousing welcome when he arrived early this week.

The Zimbabwean striker will be part of history if makes, as highly anticipated, his debut today as this is the first time RDC Mallorca are playing Girona in the Spanish top-flight.

Mallorca are ninth on the log with four points in three games having opened the season with a goalless draw against Athletic Club.

They then lost 2-1 to Real Betis and then beat Rayo Vallecano 2-0 last week.

And Kadewere will be hoping to aid the club’s bid to climb up the ladder.

Enrique Suay, the Spanish La Liga representative in Southern Africa, yesterday said the coming in of Kadewere has apparently increased the interest of this league in Southern Africa.

“I am an excited lot after Tino Kadewere joined Mallorca. We know with the coming in of Real Betis Academy, interest in La Liga has been growing and the coming of Kadewere has also enhanced the excitement. We are very happy,” said Suay.

“Match day four of the 2022/23 La Liga Santander is one that football fans around the world won’t want to miss.

“There are several huge clashes taking place on Saturday afternoon and evening, as the six teams who finished inside the top six last term face off against each other.

“Champions Real Madrid welcome last season’s fifth-placed side Real Betis to the Bernabéu, sixth-placed Real Sociedad host third-placed Atlético de Madrid and fourth-placed Sevilla FC play at home to runners-up FC Barcelona.

“Super Saturday then begins with a historic game, as RCD Mallorca take on Girona FC, this the first ever time these clubs are meeting in the top division of Spanish football.”

While Kadewere will be making his debut in the Spanish La liga, fellow Warrior, Marvelous Nakamba, will be fighting for a place in Steve Gerrard’s team who play Manchester City in the English Premiership this evening.

Nakamba was reportedly being pursued by Nottingham Forest and Fulham by deadline day on Thursday.

He was a wanted man by both clubs but Aston Villa reportedly refused to let him go with the Birmingham side instead electing for a loan option.

And he will have to fight for his place given another competitor David Luiz’s intended move to Arsenal failes to materialise on deadline day.

With Baubacar Kamara enjoying his game, Nakamba should up his socks and convince Gerrard he still has a lot to offer for the Clarets and Blue.

His situation at the club could be even more complicated after Villa also signed another midfielder Leander Deindonker from Wolves.
