THE Second Republic’s drive for enhanced public-private partnerships has yielded yet another milestone, with the Great Dyke Estate Smart City in Kadoma, Mashonaland West, set for commissioning this Thursday.
Vice President Dr Kembo Mohadi will be the guest of honour.
The launch will coincide with the World Habitat Day commemorations being organised by the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities.
Developed by Develop IT Zimbabwe, the smart city comprises 6 000 housing units in a luxurious gated community targeting low- and middle-income earners.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Develop IT Zimbabwe spokesperson Mr Samuel Mudavanhu said preparations for the event were at an advanced stage.
“The event will see the official launch of the Great Dyke Smart City by the Honourable Vice President Dr Mohadi,” he said.
“We will also witness the tree planting ceremony, which is part of the World Habitat Day celebrations, which will take place at the same venue.”
Mr Mudavanhu said the project aligned with the Second Republic’s vision of ensuring access for all by 2030.
“The project is inclusive as enunciated under the national vision of leaving no one behind,” he said.
“We have cluster units which can cater for low- and middle-income earners. There is also for low density, meaning it encompasses everyone, at the same time being inclusive.”
The project comes as Government continues to call on the private sector to play a pivotal role in advancing the country’s national development agenda.
Government is targeting to deliver one million housing units by 2030. National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Professor Paul Mavima, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo and other stakeholders are expected to attend the event.
