Kadoma in road rehab drive

Kadoma Municipality is rehabilitating most of its roads after residents protested by planting trees in potholes.

This year, the local authority was allocated $1 million through the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme that is administered by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration.

Among the roads to be rehabilitated include the central business district, Sanyati, Eiffel Flats, Mutarimanja, Marandu, Westview, Ngezi and Banda roads.

Kadoma has already issued a statement inviting tenders for the rehabilitation of its major roads.

“Tenders are invited from reputable companies for the rehabilitation of the City of Kadoma roads. Tenders should specify total costs of rehabilitating each road they are capable of constructing,” reads part of the notice.

The municipality’s director of works has since conducted site visits to assess the condition of the roads to be repaired.

Kadoma City Engineer Bernatah Nhika was, however, unavailable to comment on the developments.

Kadoma was recently hailed by Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Dr Joram Gumbo for putting into good use last year’s allocation.

It had been allocated $550 000, which the council used to resurface about five kilometres of its road network and repairing damaged bridges.

Social media has been awash with pictures of Kadoma residents reportedly planting banana trees in potholes protesting against poor service delivery by the local authority.
