Kadoma Mayor, Mr Nigel Ruzario, officially handed over food hampers bought using money from the Mayor’s Cheer Fund to vulnerable groups, including children’s homes, the elderly and people living with disabilities.
In an interview, Mr Ruzario said the Mayor’s Cheer Fund is designed to bring joy and relief to vulnerable members of society during the festive season.
“It is with great pleasure that we are gathered here today to witness the fruition of the 2025 Mayor’s Cheer Fund,” he said.
“We have found January as a demanding month, mostly for the vulnerable members of the community, like the elderly and people living with disabilities,” said Mr Ruzario.
He said the institutions and individuals benefiting from this year’s programme also included children’s homes and schools.
“This year’s programme is also benefiting institutions such as Tariro Children’s Home, Kadoma Old People’s Home, Jairos Jiri School for the Blind, Rubatsiro Zimcare Trust and Kadoma Training Institute,” he said.
“Other beneficiaries, such as families, have been selected according to their wards.”
In this regard, Mr Ruzario emphasised that the initiative was not limited to institutions but extended to all wards and proportional representatives.
“This initiative demonstrates the power of collective effort in making a meaningful difference to those in need.”
He expressed gratitude to SPAR Kadoma, Tiff Motors, Dr Langton Mabhanga, Spencer Fuels and the Tshuma Family Trust, as well as Oddesey, Luna Lodge, MCE Fuels, Eiffel Flats Hospital and the entire Kadoma business community for partnering with Kadoma City Council.
Mr Ruzario emphasised the Cheer Fund Organising Committee for successfully coordinating the event.
“I wish to also thank the Mayor’s Cheer Fund Organising Committee for your sterling job in coordinating this auspicious event,” he said.
He encouraged more well-wishers to partner with the city in supporting vulnerable communities.
“As the scripture says; ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. As we prepare for the year 2026, we look forward to mobilising more resources so that we can reach out to more vulnerable communities,” said Mr Ruzario.
