Kadoma Municipality is presently carrying out a mop-up survey of its properties to account for those left out in the initial exercise.
The survey seeks to establish the number of developed and undeveloped properties, as well as services available in those areas. Prior to the survey, which started in January and ended during the first week of March, Kadoma had about 13 300 properties on its list.
In an interview with The Herald, Kadoma Acting Town Clerk Mr Willard Mangwengwende said the mop-up exercise was expected to be complete by end of the week.
“The team doing the property survey is actually on the ground doing a mop-up exercise, which we hope by Friday they would have completed,” he said.
“Currently, we are still to get the figures obtained during the initial stages, but indications show an upward trend on Kadoma’s new property list.”
An increase in the number of new properties is expected to boost revenue inflows. Mr Mangwengwende said the property survey was part of council’s plans to improve service delivery.
“We are going to present the findings to council once the mop-up exercise is complete,” he said.
Kadoma acting housing and community services director Mr Aaron Masembure last week said the survey had covered most parts of the city.
“We covered nearly 98 percent of the city; we are now nearing the stage of producing reports,” he said.
Mr Masembure also hailed residents’ cooperation during the survey.
“We are having no challenges during the survey; residents are cooperating very well and as council, we are grateful,” he said.
A source who is part of the survey team told The Herald that council might have lost revenue in the past few years due to unbilled properties that were not captured on council’s property list.
The survey mainly assesses roads in the city, the water supply situation and the sewer system, among others.
It also seeks to establish whether residents are getting their bills or not.
