Kadoma to spruce up buildings

Kadoma Municipality will soon launch a blitz compelling property owners in the city centre to spruce up their buildings which are now an eyesore. This follows persistent demands by residents that the outlook of the “City of Gold” was under threat from old and dilapidated buildings.

In an interview yesterday, Kadoma Residents’ Association chairman Mr Wikirosi Mutizire expressed concern at the garbage found at most buildings in the CBD.

“Council must enforce a by-law that owners of buildings lying idle should maintain their premises as the situation in the CBD is a cause for concern.

“Property owners should also be compelled to cut grass at their respective premises as the outlook of Kadoma remains vital,” he said.

In response to residents’ plea, acting Kadoma town clerk Mr Willard Mangwengwende said council was committed to improve the outlook of the city.

“We need to enforce our by-laws so that property owners spruce up their buildings,” he said.
Kadoma Engineer Bernitah Nhika also said according to council’s lease agreements, it was binding that property owners should maintain their premises.

“The lease agreements between council and property owners say they should maintain their premises and pay the lease fees annually. Therefore, it is just an issue of enforcement of the law that is needed,” he said.
