Kadonzvo roaring again

VALENTINE KADONZVO’S institutional memory of Dynamos and coach Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe’s methods seem to be handy for him with the winger suddenly erupting for the Glamour Boys.

The skilful yet speedy flanker returned to Dynamos early this year, exactly six years after he left.

After helping Ngezi Platinum Stars win the Premiership last season, Kadonzvo left the Mhondoro side and was signed back at DeMbare.

While he seemed to struggle with an injury for the better part of the opening half of the season when Dynamos were still under Genesis Mangombe, Kadonzvo has turned into a real star in the second phase of the term.

The 29-year-old has proven to be the Glamour Boys’ mainstay scoring four goals including the opener in the Harare derby last Sunday when Dynamos lost 2-1 against CAPS United while also weighing in with five assists in the league.

He also got Dynamos’ only goal of the match in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup against Botswana side Orapa United when the Harare giants won 1-0 at Obedi Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown.

His goal had appeared to have set DeMbare onto the path to proceed to the cash-rich group phase before Dynamos lost their plot in the second leg and eventually bowed out following a penalty shoot-out loss.

That defeat by Orapa United deprived Dynamos of a chance of raking in at least US$400 000, money that could have changed the fortunes of the Harare giants who have a well-documented history of financial problems.

But Kadonzvo has never looked off with the forward crediting his reinvigoration to Chigowe who was the coach when he left Dynamos back in 2018.

“I am happy to be enjoying my game once again. I have been working very hard as a player to regain my form and I am glad it’s coming out very well.

“But all I can say is that the Dynamos system allows me to do those forward forays often and I am really happy as a player to be doing such kind of work,” said Kadonzvo.

“I think coach Chigowe also has a huge hand in my transformation because he knows how I play and I also understand how he wants me to play.

“My teammates are also a marvel because we have struck a huge chemistry and I am loving everything about it.”

Kadonzvo will be expected to deliver another hearty performance when Dynamos face Chicken Inn on Sunday in one of their rescheduled two league fixtures against Chicken Inn at Rufaro.

The Glamour Boys have another outstanding league match against Ngezi Platinum whose date will be announced by the PSL in the coming days.

Dynamos have already crashed out of championship contention and will not match leaders Simba Bhora even if they win all their seven remaining games as that will only take them to 59 points, a point behind what the log leaders have under their belt with five more games to play.

Kadonzvo is disappointed with the situation but he says Dynamos should win their remaining games and make sure they finish in a respectable position.

“All that Dynamos stands for is respect and dignity. Yes, we might be out of the running for the title but it’s never in us to take the foot off the pedal just because we have lost out,” added Kadonzvo.

“As Dynamos, we want to win all our remaining matches and make sure that we finish in the top-four. That is what we are going for.

“We are playing Chicken Inn on Sunday and we know they are a good team. But the idea is to employ the right means that will enable us to outwit them.”
