WHEN Kelvin Kaindu changed his outfit at halftime against Jordan Sinnot FC in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup at Luveve a week ago, many read it as a fashion statement.
Far from it. There was more to that change. It was symbolic.
On Saturday, there was no wardrobe change from Kaindu, but there was another shift as Hardrock eased past TelOne 4-1 at Chahwanda and moved to within a point of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League leaders Scottland.
Scottland lead the race with 58 points, while Hardrock are on 57 with six matches remaining.
Kaindu has moved away from the “we are a new team” mentality that accompanied Hardrock for much of the season.
His side have now won eight consecutive matches in all competitions, including their last five in the league, and the Zambian was full of confidence as he spoke about the title race after Saturday’s win.
“We are not focusing on how Scottland are playing. I have always said this. It just gives us an advantage. We keep narrowing the gap,” said Kaindu.
“We want to stay consistent. We have won eight matches in a row and we want to keep that momentum.”
Hardrock still have a demanding final six matches, including meetings with Highlanders and Dynamos.
They also face Bulawayo Chiefs, MWOS, Simba Bhora and FC Platinum. League action resumes in a fortnight, with Kaindu taking his charges to Barbourfields for a date against Highlanders.
Despite what lies ahead, Kaindu believes Scottland are the ones feeling the pressure.
“The team that has pressure is Scottland. Of course, we have games that we have to play against Highlanders and Dynamos. The next game we will play is against Highlanders.
“For us, if we can keep the momentum and hopefully we do not drop our form, the good thing is that anyone can give us goals in this team,” said Kaindu.
