Zimbabwe Under-20 national team coach Kaitano Tembo has returned to South African club football after being appointed head coach of struggling Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda FC.
The experienced 56-year-old tactician is said to have signed a two-year contract, with an option to extend, and takes over from Clinton Larsen during the FIFA international break as Venda FC seek to rescue their faltering 2026/27 campaign.
Tembo’s immediate task is to lift the Limpopo-based side from the bottom of the second-tier standings after a difficult opening to the season that has yielded just one point from five matches.
Venda FC have lost their last four matches, leaving the club in early danger of being dragged into a relegation battle.
The former SuperSport United, Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay FC coach will be assisted by former Marumo Gallants assistant Fani Mthethwa as he begins his latest assignment in South African football.
The club is using the international break to regroup, with Tembo expected to use the period to assess his squad and implement his approach before league action resumes in October.
Tembo’s appointment marks his return to the South African club game after a period in Zimbabwean football that saw him get involved with the national teams.
He had been serving as interim Warriors coach following the departure of Mario Marinica before later taking charge of the Zimbabwe Under-20 national team.
