Plumtree’s Dingumuzi Shopping Centre was buzzing with a vibrant atmosphere on Sunday as Kalanga reggae hitmaker Tangapasi, born Sineni Ngwenya, staged a surprise one-man band show.
The performance captivated passers-by, many of whom were eager to join in and show their appreciation for the artist.
Tangapasi explained that he is promoting his music and upcoming album, adding that he offered the show for free because Plumtree is his home.
“I have a ten-track album that I want to launch early this year. The album features hit songs like ‘Bhongilanti’, ‘Wamuhle Umuntu’ and ‘Brotherly Love’,” he said.
Tangapasi said his music shares educational and culturally motivational messages for all age groups. He chose the reggae style because the genre is widely recognised for conveying powerful messages to its audiences.
The new album has been a collaboration between three people across two countries: Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.

“My album was worked on by three people: myself, Nicole Mathutha, and a producer from Harare. I recorded my parts while in the UK, and Nicole recorded hers here in Harare. The mixing and mastering were done in Harare,” said Tangapasi.
He added that he has a strong desire to work with producers from Bulawayo as well.
Tangapasi began his career while he was in Grade 4 at Ngwana Primary School in Bulilima District. He called having started singing in 1993 when he was in Grade 4 at Ngwana Primary School. “I was in the school choir, and my passion for music kept growing,” said Tangapasi.
The new album, titled ‘Smile’, is set to be launched in February this year either in Plumtree town or Bulawayo.
