Kalawa rocks Bulawayo

The show, dubbed the Kalawa Invasion, was part of the festivities that are part of Oskido’s annual homecoming shows. Thursday’s event came hot on the heels of Oskido’s spectacular show on Christmas Day held at Jock and Saddle.

The show was graced by the best from the Kalawa Jazzme stable, with artistes who performed on the night including DJ Zinhle, DJ Fresh, Doctor Malinga, Professor and Oskido himself. A surprise performance was also given by young artiste, Busisiwe of Nguthandolwethu fame.
Local artistes set to take to the stage include DJs Nkuli, Dodo, Scooby, Sbago and the Ballers League, who all took turns to entertain fans while the night’s major attractions took a breather.

The show’s standout performance of the night came from DJ Zinhle who gave fans a scintillating display on the decks, thus justifying her billing as one of the best female DJs in South Africa. Playing a versatile set that saw her mixing a variety of genres, Zinhle had people showing off their best dance moves. She played a medley of house and hip hop songs that had people dancing in appreciation.

To spice up the show, host Babongile Sikhonjwa had people in raptures with his on-stage antics, and gained massive applause when he led people to rendition of the popular song, Highlander ithimu yezwe lonke, in support of local football club Highlanders.
Another moving performance on the night was given by the young Busisiwe, who switched the mood at the packed venue from a party atmosphere generated by Zinhle’s performance to a soulful one as she, armed with her guitar, she gave an emotional performance that was reminiscent of fellow South-African artiste Zahara.

The man of the  hour, Oskido, took people down the memory lane as he played an old school set that had people getting down to Kwaito hits of yesteryear.
After Oskido’s performance DJ Malinga also did not disappoint fans on the night as he gave one of his energetic performances that had fans in raptures. Performing some of his hits like Casanova, Malinga gave a performance to remember, with his vocal skills complimented by his eccentric dance moves that pleased the crowd who greeted his on stage theatrics with wild cheers.
Not to be outdone on the night were local DJs who also gave fans a reason to smile, playing songs that were appreciated by fans.
Oskido made his second appearance of the night performances after scintillating displays by DJ Fresh and Professor. Oskido played one of his great sets as he gave fans a display to remember. The tireless maestro played until the early hours of the morning, with most revellers exiting the venue before the veteran artiste was done.
In an interview after the show, a reveller who spoke to Chronicle Entertainment said Oskido had outdone himself this year, as he had given them a performance that they had not expected.

“This was a great performance by Oskido and all his colleagues. This is something which we did not expect and I am happy to say we got more than we bargained for,” he said.
Earlier on, Oskido and his roster of artistes had travelled around town, taking photos and openly mingling with fans.
