Kamambo seeks to stop distribution of football equipment through lawyers

OUSTED Zifa president, Felton Kamambo has through his lawyers written to acting president Gift Banda to stop the distribution of football equipment acquired for Fifa sanctioned programmes whose distribution was meant to start yesterday.

Zifa’s highest decision body the Congress met for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Harare last weekend. It was the first time since April 23 that the Congress convened. Forty-five of the 60 councillors that were in attendance resolved to extend the tenure of the board led by acting president Banda by a year.

Banda was installed as the acting Zifa president by the association’s members in April following an EGM in which they revoked the mandate of Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Brighton Malandule.

Since the April meeting, the Banda-led board has been making overtures to convince the continental football body and Fifa to lift the country’s suspension from the international football family.

From the weekend’s congress, it was resolved that football equipment from Fifa be distributed across, a move that has since been disputed by Kamambo and crew.

“We are advised that your grouping agreed to distribute this equipment starting Wednesday 2nd November, 2022 to your various members despite previous communications from FIFA and CAF that you are to desist from utilising their financial resources and anything acquired using their funds,” reads the letter from Kamambo’s lawyers.

“Having previously helped yourselves to an amount equivalent to US$108 000 before you were directed through a letter by CAF and FIFA, we are at a loss as to why you and your grouping would proceed to agree to share the equipment from a donor (FIFA) which has not authorised you to do so and which has previously categorically stated that they do not recognise you as the legitimate leaders of ZIFA and directed times without number that you should not utilise their resources,” the letter further reads.

In July, Caf directed Zifa to immediately cease using and accessing any funds deposited by Fifa or the continental body into the association’s accounts. — @innocentskizoe
