AFTER winning the Mr Ironman title twice, defending champion Vincent Kandiyero is a bearer of bad news for his rivals as he said he is geared to complete a hat-trick when he goes to the stage at this year’s edition in Kadoma tomorrow.
Kandiyero first won the prestigious crown when he dethroned Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga at Ochi City in 2011.
The event was not staged in 2012 and on its return last year, the “Vince Cutter,” as Kandiyero is known in body-building circles, once again upstaged the field.
The Mr and Ms Ironman show is set for tomorrow at The Odyssey in Kadoma with Kandiyero upbeat on his chances of winning again.
“I think I am in much better shape than when I defended the crown last year. My aim is to win it for the third time and I am confident.
“Everything is in order and my preparations have gone on well. It’s painful, especially the dieting at this time towards the competition,” said Kandiyero.
When he won Iron Man in 2011 Kandiyero, who pumps iron from Pro-Fitness Gym in Harare, walked away with a Toyota FunCargo while the prizes were not as impressive last year as he got a set of furniture items.
“This time I know that the organisers have put in place better prizes and I am fighting hard to get the top spot.
“At the moment I have good cuts and I am happy with the muscles. They are more compact, the striation is well developed. I am feeling to be in good shape,” said Kandiyero.
Gweru-based hulk Chimuchenga is also entering the fray.
There is also the seasoned Zumeiler Eusen-Maman, a household name in local competitions and a five-times winner of the event.
Maman, who started pumping iron as a small boy in Chakari, will be feeling equally at home in the mining town.
Reigning Mr Zimbabwe, Champion Chiendaramwano has hinted on entering so that he adds the crown to his cabinet which also houses the Mr Olympia.
However, there are dark horses like Tapiwa Chibota, Noah Dzvokora, Blessing Pambiri, Lovemore Manyamana and Nthokozo Mahlangu who can make a mockery of seasoned campaigners.
The interesting thing about Ironman is that bodybuilders of different sizes will be compared at the same time and big body-builders might not have ultra-conditioning whilst small bodybuilders’ might be well chiseled like a Greek statute.
Besides the main event, the National Federation of Zimbabwe Body-building and Fitness will also have a junior category, women, male fitness and physique divisions.
