CONSISTENCY for their respective clubs has finally paid off for Chicken Inn’s deadly left footed player Kudakwashe Mahachi and his Highlanders counterpart, Bruce Kangwa who joined the Warriors squad in Harare yesterday afternoon. The Warriors are in camp in preparation for the second round second leg African Nations Championship qualifier against tricky Zambia in Ndola on Saturday.
“As we speak Kangwa and Mahachi are on their way to the capital.
“We thought of strengthening the squad for the Zambian match which we should win in order to qualify for the Chan finals,” said Warriors’ stand-in manager Patrick Mutesva in an interview yesterday.
The team held its first training session after Sunday’s match at Gwanzura Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Zimbabwe drew 0-0 with Chipolopolo on Sunday in the first leg at Rufaro Stadium and now need an outright win or scoring draw to go through to the finals in South Africa next year.
The two neighbouring countries will be meeting for the third time in two months with the first clash being the 2-0 loss suffered by the Warriors in the final of the Cosafa Castle Cup in Zambia.
The calling up of the Bulawayo-based duo will add more options to Ian Gorowa’s camp with Mahachi likely to bring new life to the left wing while Kangwa can also be used as a winger or be played in his favourite left back position.
It’s also likely that Gorowa wants to congest the midfield in Ndola in a possible 3-5-2 formation.
Zimbabwe qualified to the second round at the expense of minnows Mauritius whom they beat 4-1 on aggregate although the second leg was a below par performance that saw the visitors claiming a 1-1 draw at Rufaro Stadium.
The Warriors cruised to 3-0 win in the first leg in Mauritius.
