Kangwa Tanzania bound

HIGHLANDERS’ man-of-the-moment Bruce Kangwa is set to leave for Tanzania on Monday for a week-long trial with the one of the country’s emerging giants, Azam Football Club.

Kangwa will leave soon after taking part in the big game between Highlanders and CAPS United at Barbourfields on Sunday.

Bosso chief executive Ndumiso Gumede confirmed the impending trial stint.

“Bruce should go for trials next week. I have heard the club wants his services but the issue is being handled by his manager George Deda. Get in touch with him and he will give you all the details,” said Gumede.

Deda, said it was high time the 28-year old player moves to greener pastures. The Zimbabwe international has been with Highlanders since 2009 and Bosso may need to cash in on his next move since there are only six months left on his contract.

The Zimbabwe international could join the club on their pre-season tour of Saudi Arabia.

“Kangwa is enjoying very good form and I think this is the right time for him to try and make a breakthrough. Everything is now in place for him to go for the trials. In fact he should have left this week but Highlanders asked to have him feature in the big game against CAPS United on Sunday.

“The player himself is very keen to join the Tanzanian outfit. Azam is one of the three big teams in Tanzania alongside Simba SC and Young Africans.

“We also have to look at the fact that Tanzania is fast emerging as one of the biggest markets in African football in terms of rewards for players.

“Tanzanian clubs are recruiting from all over the continent and they are hiring highly qualified coaches from Europe. All along it has been South Africa.

“Personally I made it a point that we should explore other markets,” said Deda.

Azam, winners of the Tanzanian league title in 2013-2014 season, have been enjoying phenomenal rise since their promotion to topflight football in 2008.

The club is eyeing to compete with giants Young Africans who were the first runners up when they won the title before exchanging positions in the last two seasons.

The side has made tremendous strides with the coming on board of Tanzanian milling giant Bakhressa Group to sponsor the team. Bakhressa Group, who recently took over Zimbabwe’s Blue Ribbon Industries, have invested much in the team’s cause.

The club recently announced they have hired Spanish coach Zeben Hernandez to replace Englishman Stewart Hall, who had led the side to a second-place finish.

Highlanders are second on the log standings, two points behind leaders CAPS United, albeit with a game in hand.

Gumede said they are looking forward to a positive result to keep their campaign in the track after drawing 0-0 with lowly Mutare City Rovers yesterday.

CAPS United assistant coach Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi said the Harare giants are expecting a tough outing in the back to back fixtures against the traditional rivals Highlanders.

The league takes a two-week break after Sunday’s matches and the giants will clash again in a fortnight. CAPS United shot to the top of the table following a 2-0 win over Tsholotsho on Wednesday.

“It’s another tough game. There are no easy games in the league. Every team is fighting for something so we respect Highlanders. We are going to give 150 percent effort. We know it’s going to be a tough game, we are away from home. So we just go there and do our best,” said Kwashi.
