Harare Institute of Technology Vice Chancellor Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe has been appointed the new chairperson of the Southern African Universities Association (SARUA).

SARUA, an association of public and private higher education institutions in the SADC region, announced the appointment at a recent meeting.

Engineer Kanhukamwe will use his vast leadership experience to advance higher education and foster collaboration across the region.

Other office holders include Professor Christine Mushibwe of Unicaf University Zambia, Prof Samson Sajidu of the University of Malawi, Prof Bettencourt Capece of the Universidade Zambeze of Mozambique and Prof Andreas Mwoombola of Welwitchia University in Namibia.

SARUA is committed to empowering the regional higher education sector to contribute positively to socio-economic and environmental development.

The organisation aims to be a dynamic and inclusive peer-led network that facilitates sustainable, evidence-based higher education impact in the SADC region.

With Eng Kanhukamwe at the helm, SARUA is poised to take its mission to new heights, fostering collaboration, innovation, and excellence among its member institutions. The organisation’s initiatives will allow its members to contribute effectively to regional development and navigate the opportunities and challenges of a changing higher education environment.

Eng Kanhukamwe’s appointment came when Zimbabwe is preparing to host the 44th SADC Council of Ministers and Summit of Heads of State in August this year.

This year’s Sadc Summit will be held under the theme: “Promoting innovation to unlock opportunities for sustainable economic growth and development towards an industrialised Sadc.”
