MASHONALAND Central technical director Rhodesia Mhosva is confident his fighters will do well when they participate in the Zimbabwe Karate Union Champion of Champions tournament today at Alexandra Sports Club.
The national competition is expected to attract over 150 athletes from all active provinces within the country. Participants will compete in the seniors, females and juniors kata and kumite events. Some of the provinces that have confirmed their participation are Harare, Masvingo, Mashonaland Central, Manicaland, Bulawayo, Mashonaland East and Midlands.
Mashonaland Central will be fielding participants in the seniors’ category only and Mhosva said although they will be missing their juniors and female fighters in this end of the year tournament, they will represent the province to the best of their ability.
“Actually I think this is going to be a big tournament compared with the ones that we had in-between because it’s coming at the end of the year where people want to showcase their talent as we have bigger tournaments next year.
“We have five contestants for the province and all are seniors. We have no women and juniors because most of them were sitting for their examinations and could not manage to come for training for the past three or four weeks,” said Mhosva.
Mhosva said they are looking forward to a competitive and well organised event considering that most of the provinces will be taking part.
