TOP karate instructor Brian Chikara was crowned the outstanding achievement in the Development of KyodoKyokushin in Zimbabwe at the annual International Budokai Union KyodoKyokushin Karate Zimbabwe awards ceremony in Glendale at the weekend.
The ceremony also saw the recognition of Chikara as the best-disabled instructor for the year 2024.
KyodoKyokushin Zimbabwe, national secretary general, Mugove Brighton Muyambo said they were happy to have managed to hold the awards, which helps the sport grow throughout the country.
“We are happy that we managed to hold our awards ceremony at Afro Village Glendale, Mashonaland Central Province at the weekend. We managed to award 20 athletes with accolades for their various contributions to the development of IBU KyodoKyokushin Karate Zimbabwe.
“The main aim of the awards ceremony is to spread KyodoKyokushin Karate to the provinces, recognise the sterling efforts by various stakeholders in the spread of KyodoKyokushin in Zimbabwe.
“We also aim at raising awareness on the need to compliment government efforts in curbing domestic violence and protecting the girl child as well as recognising people living with disability, curbing substances and drug abuse,” said Muyambo.
Muyambo, said they have taken the awards to Mashonaland Central as a way of spreading the sports to all the corners of the country.
“We have decided to take the awards ceremony to Glendale and we are grateful to the sports commission who sent representative, Zimbabwe Karate Union president Shihan Tawanda Mufundisi, vice Shihan Wilfred Mashaya, Karate instructors from other organisations, the business community and karatekas from all over the country.
“The event was done in the province to uplift Karate in rural areas despite the challenges we are encountering like lack of resources in the form of finances and sponsorships.
“We are appealing to the corporate world to partner with SRC in support of the sports persons and or Organizations,” said Muyambo.
