THE Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project, aimed at revamping the Kariba Dam wall and Spillway, is now in full swing, marking a significant milestone in ensuring the sustainable generation of power.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services said the project holds great promise for enhancing the structural integrity of the Dam, a critical hydroelectric power source.
Situated on the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Kariba Dam has been a vital source of electricity for both countries since its completion in the late 1950s. However, over time, wear and tear have taken their toll on the infrastructure, necessitating the extensive rehabilitation endeavour.
The project aims to address the Dam’s ageing infrastructure and restore it to optimal functionality, bolstering its capacity to generate electricity efficiently and reliably.
By strengthening the Dam wall and Spillway, the rehabilitation initiative seeks to ensure the long-term viability of power generation, meeting the energy needs of the surrounding regions.
The successful completion of the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project will not only secure a reliable source of power but also contribute to the economic growth and development of Zambia and Zimbabwe.
