KAROI resumed their campaign in the World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league on a positive note when they beat Bindura United 1-0 at Chikangwe in an incident-filled encounter on Sunday. The win saw them moving a place up to 14th place and they are insisting that they want to finish among the top four teams at the end of the season.

But looking at their current position and their performance they really have to up their game because it’s not going to be an easy task with the competition in the Northern Region getting tougher each week.

Karoi chairman, Kenson Kumponda, said they are behind their team as he emphasised that they need to remain in Division One and will do all they can to make their dream a reality.

“I think for the remainder of the season we will leave no stone unturned because we can’t be promoted to be relegated.  It’s been happening over the years, we get promoted and the next thing we go back to Division Two.

“I think we are the oldest team in the league and the last time we were relegated was in 2011 and we had to play in Division Two in 2012 before we came back last year.
“For this year we want to finish in the top four and maybe next year we sit down and talk. Make a clear plan and set the target so that maybe we get promoted,” said Kumponda.

“Now we have got a young team and with the passage of time we can be a force to reckon with because as compared to the team we played yesterday (Sunday) they had experienced guys but our players managed to stand the heat,” said Kumponda.

While Karoi are celebrating the three points collected on Sunday, Bindura United coach, John Wilo, has expressed disappointment with the officials who handled their game.

“What happened was not good. Just three minutes into the game, Simbarashe Manuere was tackled from behind and dislocated his left leg and the perpetrator got away without caution.

“We also lost Peter Kajeke in a similar incident. It’s painful after signing new players and Karoi crippled my players and team.  I lost two players in eight minutes in nasty situations. Had it been that we are not a disciplined team we would have left the pitch within 10 minutes of play but again a big hand to my players for managing to resist the frustration,” said Wilo.
