Karoi gets recording studio

KAROI entrepreneur and music director, Lovemore Chimurambi, has established a state-of-the-art studio in the area that will record less privileged creatives free of charge.
The 49-year-old said he wanted to empower his kith and kin in Mashonaland before spreading his wings countrywide.

In an interview, Chimurambi who also plays jazz and teaches music, said he was optimistic his dream would come to pass.

“Growing up in this community, I have noted that a lot of talent has gone to waste because they lack recording facilities,” he said.

“I have decided to set up this studio so that young people are not idle. I have roped in local producers to ensure that they also gain experience.”

Chimurambi, who also works as a firefighter and farmer, said the studio will also help to fight the scourge of drugs.

“The drug and substance abuse menace should be addressed at community level before it becomes a cancer. This is one of the efforts we are doing in Karoi where there is a lot of untapped talent.”

Chimurambi, whose stable has become a hit with budding musicians from Mashonaland West, has vowed to keep upgrading it

“In music, we are now required to embrace technology and we are going to invest in the latest soft wares,” he said.

To date, Chimurambi has released more than five albums.

Some of the popular songs he has recorded include “Mambo Jesu”, “Ndiri Kushanda”, “Ndokutendayi Nei”, “Nhamo” and “Ndaizivei”.

Chimurambi, who was largely self-taught, was inspired by the late Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi.

The crooner plays the rhythm guitar, keyboard and congas. He is also a vocal training tutor.
