KAROI United, unbeaten in 34 league matches, have won their ticket into the Zifa Northern Region Division One league.
The team was demoted in 2011 and spent two seasons in the second tier before they shook off the challenge from several other contenders to win the ticket into Division One.

Tenson Kumponda, the club’s chairman, says gaining promotion into Division One was a good thing for the Karoi community.

“We are very happy that we have managed to bring back Division One football to Karoi and the community is very supportive. We have managed to gain promotion after we went for 34 games without a defeat as we won 29 games and drew five.

“Karoi was lacking competitive soccer since we were demoted from Division One and we are looking forward to some good performances when we go into Division One and, hopefully, we will give a good account of ourselves there,” Kumponda said.

The team use Chikangwe for their home matches and they believe that they have what it takes to compete well in Division One.

“The inclusion of several top players has helped the team, owned by the town council, to be where it is.

“ZPC Kariba has shown us the way and we look forward to follow in their steps and we have good players in Nickson Kondo, Blessing Magaya and coach Luckson Phiri has vast experience he gained from coaching in Zambia, at Mhangura and at Kadoma United.

“The race was not an easy one as we got competition from Padenga and PAM from Muriel Mine. We could have returned into Division One last year but Lake Harvest got the edge.

“We are hopeful that we are to stay in Division One and aim for Premiership football,” Kumponda said.
