NORTHERN Region Soccer League side Karoi United have been found guilty of causing the abandonment of their match against title-chasing Scottland at Chikangwe last month.
According to the NRSL standing rules and regulations, that means the match, which was terminated in the 82nd minute while tied at 1-1 will be awarded to Scottland on a 3-0 score line.
The result will spring the Mabvuku club to pole position with a two-point cushion over current leaders MWOS with just three games before the curtain comes down what has been a riveting season that has grabbed the attention from wide and far.
However, the full ruling has not yet been handed down following successive requests by Karoi United for more time to submit their mitigation in writing following the delivery of the guilty verdict by the NRSL’s independent disciplinary committee.
“After the delivery of the guilty verdict of Karoi United FC through their lawyer requested for time to submit mitigation in writing by close of business on Friday 1st of November 2024.
“The ruling on the penalty shall be delivered by the Disciplinary Committee by Monday the 4th of November 2024,” read a brief statement from NRSL.
While there have been questions on why the judgment on the case has taken so long to be made public, it has since emerged that the delays were occasioned by Karoi’s persistent requests for postponements.
The match in question was played on September 15 where referee Matthew Dingo was hit by a missile and fell on to the surface from where he needed medical assistance.
