THE 2021 Sables Kart Club Championships comes to a head at the Donnybrook Kart Circuit tomorrow.

The seventh round sees an interesting set of heats in all three classes.

The Kid Mini Rok Class, which was introduced in 2021, has been providing some exciting racing from the club’s youngest competitors.

Jayden Kerwin, Oliver Welman, Devin Van Der Linde and Zac Staples, all under the age of eight, have put on some great racing during the year.

Darnie Steyn, the club chairman, said this was about the future of the sport.

‘‘This class is the breeding ground for our future champions and it has been amazing to see these children gain confidence and learn sportsmanship and race craft.

‘‘Although they are young, they are passionate about karting and becoming better drivers.  ‘‘We can look forward to a long local karting career for all of them.’’

In the very competitive Pole Position Karts Mini Rok Class, Bradley Steyn has control of the championship after some tight racing with Tawana Shambare all year.

However, there is an epic battle behind them, with several competitors jostling for podium places which should provide for intense racing tomorrow.

The Mini Rok Class has been the most exciting class for the whole year with the mid-pack covered by only 0.5 seconds.

Some fantastic racing from the club’s young guns is certainly in store for tomorrow.

One of the race meeting organisers, Kevin Dufty, said: “Thanks to our Rok promoter and sponsor, Pole Position Karts, this year has seen eight new drivers join the class which has boosted the series tremendously.

‘‘The active involvement of karting ace Zac Dufty, coaching each of the newcomers has helped to ensure that they are competent to drive in a race situation and we are excited with the progress made.

“With the new Mini Kart Class structure ranging from our Motorsport Zimbabwe-endorsed academy up to the Mini Rok class and technical support we offer, even the most non-technical parents are able to support their child and enjoy their race day.’’

In the Rotax Class, well-known karter Zac Dufty, racing his PPK Kosmic kart, has (subject to official confirmation) tied up the championship with an unbeatable 54 points lead, which he hopes to extend during the day.  He is followed by Jordan Watt who will start the day with 172 points and promising Junior Max driver, Michael Mukori, who starts with 120 points.

Although a small class, there has been some challenging racing between these three young men this year.

Veteran racer, Rob Weston, makes a return this weekend but sadly both Yeftech Sivan and Michael Palmer have dropped out of the championship due to personal commitments.

Racing starts at 11am. Before that there is practice and qualifying.

The entry fee has been pegged at US$5 for the spectators.
