TWENTY-FIVE passionate kart racers will be taking to the Pole Position Kart track at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday where fireworks are expected in each class.
Zimbabwe’s premier karting destination will host the second round of the 2024 ROK Cup Zimbabwe championship and Kart Sports Club championship and the second round of the Sodi Pro-karts summer challenge.
Thrills and spills are expected during each of the four races in the Kid ROK, Mini ROK, and 125 Max classes. Shake-down practice sessions start at 8:30am followed by 10-minute qualifying sessions for each Class with racing starting at 10:30am.
Kid ROK competitor Rayyaan Savania will be looking to repeat his clean sweep of wins that he produced in the first round with Zack Staples, Manual Makori, and Sheunesu Shambare all snapping at his heels to gain points.
The Mini ROK Class, the largest grid of the day, is expected to see the closest racing of the day. The first round saw spectators lining the main straight for each lap as nail-biting racing was seen throughout the pack leading to many position changes during the 13-lap races.
Seth Rukato took the chequered flag, closely followed by Tawana Shambare with Yaseen Savania coming in third.
The 125 Max Class will see the teenagers racing the fastest karts of the day around the 820m track. Sadly, school commitments make the field thin this weekend. However, those who race will no doubt put on a spectacular show.
Last time out, Zaydaan Savania beat Jaedon Masiyanise who was followed home by Anesu Mapiro.
One of the highlights of the day will be the Sodi Pro-karts racing over four heats along a specially designed 720m track. These powerful rental karts have 390cc Honda engines under the covers, which provide exciting and close racing.
The class is part of the Pole Position Karts programme to introduce an intermediate Class between recreational karting and full on race karts to grow the sport. All drivers have pre-qualified to be able to join this Class of elite rental drivers — the best of the best in Zimbabwe!
Spectators are welcome from 10am and entry is US$5 with free entry for under 10-year-olds.
It’s been a long break so everyone is raring to go.
All the young drivers are wringing their wrists in joy. Harare karters are competitive wherever they race. So light that blue touch paper and take five paces back. This is going to be war!
