FRESH from their successful first season, Kart Sport Club have released the 2024 calendar for their club championship.
The 2024 season will be held over eight race days. Each race day will see four different classes catering to different age groups.
The 2024 season opens on March 10.
Both the Kid ROK (ages 6 – 10yrs) and Mini ROK (8-13yrs) class will see a changed dynamic as some competitors move up class due to class age requirements.
The 2023 Kid ROK champion, Devin Van de Linde, moves up to the faster Mini ROK class with ambitious plans to feature strongly.
Elroy Shamu, the 2023 Kid ROK runner-up, is also considering the move up.
A very close mid field pack, led by Zac Staples will remain and with several rookies joining the class, it will be exciting to see which Kid ROK competitors will step up to a new front pack of this talented group.
The Mini ROK 2024 championship promises to be the most competitive class with close racing expected from all 12 competitors.
Tawana Shambare is championship favourite on paper, but this class is always one to watch with extremely close racing through the grid.
Karts in this class have very similar performance specifications, so expect plenty of jockeying for position here.
With 2023 Mini ROK champion and ROK super final competitor, TK Mapiro, moving up to the exciting 125cc Junior Max class, Zaydaan Savania, the 2023 championship winner is fully pre-pared for the challenge posed by TK Mapiro.
Jaedon Masiyanise upgrades to the senior class and will go head to head with Jacob Viki.
A possible return to the track by the competitive Anesu Mapiro is exciting news.
Anesu took time out in 2023 to concentrate on school academics but still managed to attend the South African Women in Motorsport camp held at the FK Kart Track in Joburg earlier this year.
Kart Sport Club Chairman, Victor Shambare, said: “We cannot wait for the new season to start. We had a solid first year in 2023 and hope to attract more competitors to our club next year.
“We have classes to suit all ages and skills and can assist with anyone interested in starting an exciting new hobby. It’s a fabulous day out for spectators too, with the track laid out in front of the imposing National Sports Stadium.”
The Pole Position Karts sponsored Pro-Kart class returns in 2024 with upgraded karts that are creating much interest. Introduced in 2023, the class is aimed at competitive rental kart racers who are keen to take their hobby to the next level without having to purchase their own kart.
Kevin Dufty, track owner and ROK promoter said: “We are always looking at ways to help break down barriers and get people into karts! For 2024 the Pro-kart class will use international specification 390cc karts which is an exciting step for us to promote a great hobby and grass roots motorsport. The class is internationally affiliated and allows the possibility of international competition at the annual world championship.”
