THE 2023 season finale of the Kart Sport Club Championship takes place this Sunday at the Pole Position kart track at the National Sports Stadium.
With round six of the 2023 championship now in the books, only this final event remains to crown the series champions this season.
With titles still to be decided in two classes and close points in the other two, there promises to be plenty of excitement during the course of the weekend.
The KID Rok class, which is the perfect kart for young beginners, has seen competitive racing from these young guns who are aged from 6 to 9 years old.
Devin Van de Linde has dominated the class with 20 wins out of a possible 24 and sits on an unassailable 700 points going into the final round.
Young Elroy Shamu has been in close attendance throughout the year with several wins to his name and currently sits on 641 points with Zack Staples on 610 points.
Close racing is expected from Josh Phiri, Rayaan Savania and Sheunesu Shambare who are all covered by only 18 points overall.
Manual Mukori, who has only raced in a few events this year, follows up in 7th position. In the Mini ROK class for drivers from 8 to 13 years old, TK Mapiro, the 2023 ROK Cup champion who recently returned from competing in the ROK world finals in Italy, is hoping to stamp his name on the club championship.
However, he faces stiff competition from Tawana Shambare who is only 17 points behind Mapiro in the championship. Shambare competed in the African Open in South Africa last month and is also fired up for this week-end.
The feisty mid-pack has been extremely competitive this season with Yaseen Savania, Seth Rukato, Ehsaan Savania and Austin Tigere all vying for a good points haul this weekend. Rookie Eli Pilossof has been improving in the past few races with Matthew Mukori and Mahlee Hanscombe having limited outings during the year. The 125 class, although small this year, has seen some very close and tough racing from the competitors.
Rookie Zaydaan Savania holds the championship lead followed by Yeftech Sivan, Jaedon Masiyanise and Jacob Viki.
Track owner and ROK Cup promoter Kevin Dufty said:”This Sunday, competitors will continue to enjoy a fun and inclusive atmosphere while developing as drivers and fighting for podium and championship positions.”
Kart Sport Club Chairman, Victor Shambare, said: “This was the first year for the new Kart Sport Club and stadium track and it has proved to be very successful. We saw teams leave happy and drivers leave smiling so we sure we are on the right path.”
The Kart Sport Club Championship Series consists of 7 races spread throughout the year, with an on-going point tally that counts toward a series championship.
The series holds races on Sundays with on-track action starting at 10:30am and running until 3pm.
