IN one of the most significant developments in African motorsport in years, two of the country’s brightest young karting talents will be heading to Angola next month for the launch of the ambitious Karting Africa initiative.
Kufara Chimuti and Seth Rukato will represent Zimbabwe at the continental karting showcase.The initiative is driven by WORR Motorsport in South Africa and aims to create a genuine grassroots-to-professional pathway for racing drivers from Africa to reach the highest levels of international motorsport. The vision is to establish a competitive continental platform where Africa’s young drivers can race against one another regularly, gain experience, learn from professional teams and coaches and develop the skills required to take the next step up the motorsport ladder.
And Zimbabwe will have two very different but equally exciting representatives in Angola.
For Chimuti, the opportunity comes after a remarkable first season in motorsport. Having only started racing at the beginning of this year, the young Zimbabwean has already gained valuable international experience, competing in the prestigious Rotax African Open at Zwartkops in South Africa as well as the most recent regional karting event.
Rukato brings considerably more experience to the Zimbabwean team.
Having been involved in karting for approximately six years, he has already established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s leading young racers.
A former Mini Rok champion, Rukato also represented Zimbabwe at the 2024 ROK Super Final in Italy, gaining invaluable experience competing against some of the best young kart racers from around the world. His 2026 season has further cemented his credentials, with Rukato winning the Kart Sport Club Rotax Challenge Junior Max championship. The combination of Chimuti’s rapid rise and Rukato’s experience provides Zimbabwe with an exciting driver pairing for the Angolan showcase.
The Angola event will also provide an important insight into the future Karting Africa Series, which is planned to run over five rounds across different African countries during the 2027 season. The proposed championship represents a significant step forward for African karting, creating a structured continental racing platform that will allow young drivers to compete regularly against talent from other countries without having to immediately look outside Africa for high-level competition.
