Karting to light up NSS

THE Pole Position Kart circuit at the National Sports Stadium will once again echo the exciting sounds of high-performance racing karts this Sunday, as the Kart Sport Club hosts their penultimate round of the 2024 race season.

In a thrilling late-season charge, with an amazing run of 11 wins, Elroy Shamu (Kosmic kart) has put himself as the driver to beat in the Kid ROK class and now leads the championship with an 11-point advantage over second place Zack Staples (Kosmic Kart).

Young Rayyan Savania (Tony Kart) follows up in third, only five points behind Staples, so close racing is definitely on the cards.

Sheunesu Shambare (Praga) had his best race of the season last time out, finishing second for the day, and is keen to prove that it was not a one-off result, with ever-improving rookie driver Jake Edwards posting his best lap time of the year. In the super competitive Mini ROK class, Seth Rukato has already sealed the ROK Cup Zimbabwe championship and heads off to the ROK World Finals in Italy next month.

However, the fight remains on for the club championship.

Yaseen Savania roared back at the last race meeting with a dominant performance and this meeting will see both boys fighting it out for the top honours to chase their title aspirations.

Devin van de Linde enjoyed a maiden win at the last round of the championship and will be looking to build on that performance as will Eshaan Savania, who is working hard to improve his lap times.

In the fastest kart class in Zimbabwe, all gloves are off in the title race. Zaydaan Savania (Riciardo) and Jaedon Masiyanise (Kosmic) have been going head-to-head for most of the season with some very hard racing being the order of the day.

Savania has a 25-point championship lead, which puts him as the top championship contender but with 8 races left in the series, there is no time for him to get complacent from a hard-charging Masiyanise.

Tawana Shambare, who only joined this class halfway through the season has stunned fellow competitors with his pace.

Racing a junior max kart (Kosmic), Shambare won overall at the last meeting and is sure to challenge for the top podium step again.

Deanna and Zayyan Savania will be out on the track again after missing the last event due to school sports commitments and will be keen to recover some lost points.

Eli Pilossof has decided to move up class this weekend in preparation for the 2025 season and has been putting in some fast times during practice in his Tony Kart.

He will be keen to see how he measures up against the class regulars.

Kart Sport Club chairman Victor Shambare said: “The club is only in its second year of existence so we very happy to see such a high level of competition in all our championship classes and it bodes well for the club’s future.

“We have exciting plans for 2025 and will continue to work tirelessly to introduce and develop new drivers into this fantastic sport.”

Kart racing action starts at 10am this Sunday at the Pole Position kart track at the National Sports Stadium.
